American Music Lecture: “Billie Holiday – A Great Jazz Singer”
A monthly series of lectures devoted to American music, particularly Grammy Award ® winners and their famous albums. We’ll learn and discuss what makes album a “hit,” the creative process in music, how do musicians achieve success in the record industry and what are unifying factors in winning albums (if there are any). Each lecture will cover individual albums/artists and over the course will include Frank Sinatra’s “Come Dance with Me,” Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” “Ray Charles’ “Genius Loves Company,” Taylor Swift’s “1989” and others.
To commemorate Women’s History Month in March, the American Center is pleased to announce the lecture on a great jazz singer – Billie Holiday. You will find out how Billie Holiday made an incredible career despite all the struggles, recorded the albums with Norman Granz, one of the biggest jazz producers. Billie Holiday was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, while her singing inspired many other musicians, including Diana Ross, Frank Sinatra, and Tony Bennett.
Led by Dmitry Tsvetkov, a musician, literary agent and writer.
