Cultural Diversity and Ethnopolitics Workshop

March 27 @ 18:30 - 20:00

Free

What is ethnicity? Cultural diversity? Why is it important to understand them and why do they continue to cause so much misunderstanding? Join us for three introductory sessions exploring the concept and role of ethnicity in a global context. Participants will begin to study complex challenges in relations between national/transnational minorities; autochthonous and extraterritorial groups; international legislation governing the right to self-determination; distinctions between cultural autonomy vs. territorial autonomy; and multiculturalism as a method toward democratic and civil society. Sessions will be divided as follows:

  • Monday, March 13th at 6:30p.m.: “What Is Ethnicity and Why Are There So Many Ethnic Groups?”
  • Monday, March 20th at 6:30p.m.: “Ethnicity and the Right to Self-Determination”
  • Monday, March 27th at 6:30p.m.: ” Multiculturalism and Multinational States”

Led by Gadzhidada Batalov, a graduate from the Higher School of Economics with a Master’s in Political Analytics and Public Policy.
