Film: “Catching the Sun”
In preparation for Earth Day, which is observed worldwide on April 22nd, we are happy to show a special screening of “Catching the Sun.” This documentary film portrays the global race to lead the clean energy future by telling the stories of hope and heartbreak of unemployed American workers seeking jobs in the solar industry; and the successes of Chinese innovative technologies as global competitors; and an overarching theme of workers and entrepreneurs building solutions to income inequality and climate change with their own hands.
“Catching the Sun” is a New York Times Critics’ Choice movie and Hollywood actor, Mark Ruffalo, describes it as: “A must-see film. An eye-opening look at workers and entrepreneurs on the forefront of the clean energy movement that will transform, and enliven the way you see the future. What is clear is the wonderful opportunity the transition to clean energy represents.”
The rights to screen these films are generously provided byAmerican Film Showcase, a program to bring award-winning contemporary American documentaries, feature films and animated shorts to audiences around the world, offering a view of American society and culture as seen by independent filmmakers. Funded by a grant from the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, the Showcase highlights the value of film in fostering understanding and cooperation, dialogue and debate.
