“GOOD NIGHT, MOSCOW”

The American Center in Moscow together with Funky Chekhov’s Society presents a flash fiction contest “Good Night, Moscow*”. We are encouraging our patrons to spend 4 weeks in December 2020 – January 2021 creating a short fiction story (500 words maximum) in English to express their feelings to the capital of Russia (or any other city you have a strong emotional connection with).

CREATIVE WRITING CONTEST "GOOD NIGHT MOSCOW”

CREATIVE WRITING CONTEST: “GOOD NIGHT, MOSCOW”

Contest task: Write a short fiction story (up to 500 words) themed “Good Night, Moscow”.

Your stories should be in English.

Length of the entries: In this contest you will need to write a flash fiction piece. It means that it should be no longer than 500 words (the maximum word count is 500 words). It is a classic flash fiction literary category.

*Topic of the entries: As the title of the contest, “Good night, Moscow”, suggests, your contest entry can be about Moscow. However, you don’t have to write about Moscow – you can choose any other city, town, or village that you have a strong connection with. You can pick any genre – drama, comedy, horror, science fiction etc. to express your feelings and ideas. You can leave the original title (“Good night, Moscow”) or choose your own, but your new title must be connected with the main theme. Your short story should also be of your own creation (not borrowed or translated from any other work).

Example: Here is an example of the winner of a similar contest where main protagonists were New York City and its famous skyscrapers: Read more…
