CALL FOR ARTISTS
Showcase your art at the online exhibition “Sense of Place"
Showcase your art at the online exhibition “Sense of Place: The Indigenous Experience in Russia and the United States” – the first online art exhibition at the American Center in Moscow!
The American Center in Moscow (AMC) is a virtual community space for Russians to explore the history, culture, art and values of the United States, and to participate in conversations on subjects that impact both American and Russian citizens. AMC’s free online events include concerts, films, theatrical productions, art exhibitions, and livestream discussions with leading experts on diverse topics such as culture, science, technology, historic preservation, and the environment. AMC also provides ongoing language, business and creative arts activities, as well as up-to-date resources on educational opportunities in the United States.
The online art exhibition “Sense of place” is a cultural exchange project produced and presented by the American Center in Moscow. It is inspired by Indigenous Peoples’ Day, which is celebrated on the second Monday of October, to honor the cultures and histories of the Native American people. Encouraging artistic engagement through impactful interactions, this exhibition contributes to the American Center in Moscow’s goal to be a center for cultural exchange.
Description:
The goal of this exhibition is to promote mutual understanding through creative art, while fostering a better understanding of the connection between the land, environment, Indigenous identity, and their cultural heritage.
Indigenous cultural heritage includes ideas, experiences, worldviews, objects, forms of expression, knowledge, spirituality, family ties, places and land valued by indigenous peoples. These concepts are passed from one generation to another, forming an intrinsic bond and value of these cultural practices, which are inseparably linked to the idea of land and place. Indigenous peoples’ sense of community and identity emerges from this place-based understanding. The online art exhibition “Sense of Place:The Indigenous Experience in Russia and the United States” explores the image of “place” in indigenous cultures of Russia and the United States.
We are looking for artists and artisans who would like to share their art, knowledge, and experience with a wide audience from both Russia and the United States.
