International Education Week (IEW), November 16-20, 2020, is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. Today, IEW is celebrated in more than 100 countries worldwide.
The American Center in Moscow invites English language teachers from around Russia to come together and celebrate IEW in a unique free online event — English Language Teaching Marathon on November 18 at 4:30-8:30 pm MSK.
Taught by Zhenya Bakin, a language teacher and teacher trainer, this marathon is aimed at English language teachers interested in fostering their professional development and growth. It will be held online and will consist of two parts: an online lecture open for public and a master class that requires a sign-up.
November 18 at 16:30-18:30 MSK — Lecture “How to teach speaking”
In this lecture, you will explore what teachers should focus on when teaching speaking, will learn how to plan an effective speaking lesson, and get advice on common dos and don’t when it comes to teaching this important language skill.
This lecture is free and will be streamed on the American Center in Moscow’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. There is no need to sign up, however, if you would like to receive a reminder 30 minutes before the lecture begins, register for it below.
November 18 at 18:30-20:30 MSK — Masterclass “How to present vocabulary”
In this masterclass, you will discover what students needs to know about new lexical items depending on their language level. You will also learn several effective ways to present new lexis in order to help students to successfully understand, memorize, and retrieve it. Finally, you will apply these principles of effective vocabulary instruction in practical exercises and receive feedback.
This master class is free and will be held on Zoom, so if you are interested in joining, please create a Zoom account beforehand. As the number of places is limited, if you’d like to attend the masterclass, you are required to register below. 30 minutes before the masterclass begins, we will email you a link to its Zoom conference. If you cannot attend, please cancel your registration 24 hours prior to the event to allow somebody else to attend instead.
About the instructor:
Zhenya Bakin is a language teacher and CELTA trainer from Moscow. As a Fulbright scholar he has lived in the USA where he taught Russian at college level. Zhenya has also studied in University of Oslo, Norway. Zhenya holds Cambridge DELTA with specialism in EAP. He has experience in teaching both in the private sector and in public schools. After 6 years at Higher School of Economics where he was responsible for Academic Writing Center. Zhenya spent 2 years as Head of Foreign Languages in New School, Moscow. He has designed a free app for Russian state exam preparation, shot a few demo in-class videos and is a co-founder of ELephanT project. At the moment Zhenya is working towards his MA with Norwich Institute for Language Education. He is also studying lesson evaluation under the umbrella of Danielson group. As a freelance teacher and a teacher trainer Zhenya now works mostly online providing professional and language support for language teachers.
