AMC Online | MELODIA: Celebrating Women Composers of Popular Song Around the World with American Band Miramar

On Friday June 24 at 7:00PM, Marlysse Simmons and Laura Ann Singh, members of American band Miramar, will launch MELODIA, a new multi-lingual global initiative celebrating women composers of popular song around the world.

This launch event will feature Miramar’s performances of songs by three women composers — «Nezhnost» and «Hope» by celebrated Russian composer Aleksandra Pakhmutova; «Walking by the River» by African-American composer Una Mae Carlyle and «Nave Sin Rumbo» by innovative Puerto Rican composer and songwriter Sylvia Rexach.

The performances will be followed by a discussion with Simmons and Singh about the importance of highlighting women artists and the significant role these three composers have had in their respective countries.
