AMC Online | Teacher2Teacher Workshop: Using the Meta-Moment in the Classroom (Social and Emotional Learning)

We are excited to announce a new series of Teacher2Teacher Workshops for English-language teachers from all across Russia. Taught by the English Language Office’s English Language Fellow  Heather Denton, these biweekly meetings will be a great opportunity for English teachers to get hands-on advice about various aspects of foreign language instruction, share successful practices, resources, innovative pedagogies, and work on their professional development together with like-minded colleagues. 

These workshops are free and will take place online via Zoom. They are intended for teachers of English teaching in various educational contexts, as well as teacher-trainers and students pursuing a degree in teaching English.

The skills of emotional intelligence are essential to effective teaching and learning, sound decision making, physical and mental health, and success in school and beyond. In the third workshop of the Teacher2Teacher series on April 28at 5 pm (MSK) we will continue exploring the benefits of integrating social and emotional learning into our teaching. We will look at new research about the value of social and emotional learning in the classroom, study the Meta-Moment as a tool to teach students explicitly how to deal with events that set them off track in their ability, and explore how these tools can be geared toward being used in the Russian English classroom.

About the instructor: Heather Denton is Experienced language educator, Master of Arts in teaching foreign language with certification and licensure through State of Oregon in K-12 ESOL and bilingual education, 15 years working in diverse language acquisition environments in both public schools and internationally.
