To celebrate Earth Day on April 22 American Center hosts a special screening of three short films: Frans Lanting: The Evolution of Life, National Parks Adventure and One Hundred Thousand Beating Hearts.

Film synopsis:

«Frans Lanting: The Evolution of Life» by Steven Kochones: This documentary brings National Geographic photographer Frans Lanting’s epic “LIFE” project to the big screen, taking viewers on a fascinating journey through time via dazzling images depicting life on Earth— from the Big Bang to the present. The film also recounts Lanting’s own evolution from natural history photographer to visual chronicler of life on the planet.

«National Parks Adventure» Greg MacGillivray: Narrated by Academy Award® winner, Robert Redford, National Parks Adventure is an immersive giant-screen experience that takes audiences on the ultimate off-trail adventure into the pristine wilderness of America’s great outdoors.  Spectacularly wild and iconic places like Yosemite, Yellowstone, the Everglades, Redwood, Canyonlands and more are illuminated as never before with IMAX® 3D camera imagery.

«One Hundred Thousand Beating Hearts» by Peter Byck: The film tells the story of fourth generation cattleman Will Harris’s evolution from industrial, commodity cowboy to sustainable, humane food producer. The consumption of beef as a food source has long been vilified as terrible environmental and moral consumption choice. Harris’s work in Georgia shows that we can adapt agricultural practices and raise and grow healthy food in harmony with nature.

The rights to screen these films are generously provided by American Film Showcase, a program to bring award-winning contemporary American documentaries, feature films and animated shorts to audiences around the world, offering a view of American society and culture as seen by independent filmmakers. Funded by a grant from the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, the Showcase highlights the value of film in fostering understanding and cooperation, dialogue and debate.
