Since the Russian mortgage market is growing rapidly, the phenomenon of mortgage default (where the borrower stops making payments on the loan) will become a concern. Defaults, for example, surged to a high level in the US during the financial crisis, when house prices fell dramatically. This lecture will explain the economic incentives for mortgage default, providing insight into this important aspect of borrower behavior.
