AMC Online | Meet a Poet: Cyrus Console


The American Center in Moscow’s monthly Meet a Poet series returns on April 24 with American poet Cyrus Console. Tune in online at 6:00 p.m. MSK to hear him read his poems live and answer questions from the audience!

An American poet, essayist, and memoirist from Topeka, Kansas, Cyrus Console brings twelve of his poems, including those from his books Brief Under Water, The Odicy and The Wayfarer, to share with the online audience. To get a sneak peek at these poems in Russian and English, click here.

About the guest speaker/poet:

Cyrus Console is the author of Brief Under Water (Burning Deck, 2008), for which he received a Fund for Poetry award, The Odicy (Omnidawn, 2011), Romanian Notebook (FSG, 2017), and The Wayfarer (Omnidawn, forthcoming 2024). Recent poetry has appeared in Brick, Critical Quarterly, Harper’s, The New York Review of Books, and The Paris Review. He lives in Kansas City and works as professor in the Liberal Arts Department at the Kansas City Art Institute.  

About the moderator:

Zamira Atlukhanova is a literary enthusiast who loves reading books, discussing them, and putting words on paper. Born and raised in Dagestan, Russia, she studied in the USA and now holds an MA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Literary and Cultural Studies. She is the author of several short stories and a course on critical reading and writing at Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences.
