AMC Online | Meet a Poet: Mary Hickman


The American Center in Moscow’s monthly Meet a Poet series returns on June 5  with American poet Mary Hickman. Tune in online at 6:00 p.m. MSK to hear her read her poems live and answer questions from the audience!

Author of two poetry collections, This Is the Homeland and Rayfish, which won the James Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets, Mary Hickman brings 7 of her poems to share with the online audience. Mary is an assistant professor of English at Nebraska Wesleyan University and teaches for the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program. About the guest speaker/poet:

Mary Hickman is the author of two poetry collections, This Is the Homeland and Rayfish, which won the James Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets. She is an assistant professor of English at Nebraska Wesleyan University, teaches for the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program in summer, and is a member of the The Mighty Vitamins big band.  

About the moderator:

Zamira Atlukhanova is a literary enthusiast who loves reading books, discussing them, and putting words on paper. Born and raised in Dagestan, Russia, she studied in the USA and now holds an MA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Literary and Cultural Studies. She is the author of several short stories and a course on critical reading and writing at Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences.
