In Commemoration of Martin Luther King Day Bring the Beat: The History, Community and Global Impact of Go-Go


In 2012, the Martin Luther King Library in Washington, DC, named after one of the most prominent civil rights leaders in the United States, launched the Go-Go Archive to “honor, preserve, teach and enjoy Go-Go,” the only musical form indigenous to Washington, D.C. Go-Go was named as the city’s “official music” in 2020.Join us for a short concert featuring celebrated musicians, followed by a live Q&A with Natalie Hopkinson, Phd., Author and Associate Professor of Media, Democracy & Society at American University, and Charles C. Stephenson Jr., co-author of The Beat: Go-Go Music from Washington, DC, and founder of Teach the Beat, a program which brings Go-Go into American classrooms.
