In order to enter the American Center at the U.S. Embassy, you will need to bring a VALID PASSPORT or government-issued ID with your photograph on it. Please also note below the following rules of access.


Permitted items:

  • Cell phones (please make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are switched off)*

  • Personal items such as a purse, briefcase, handbag, shoulder bag
  • Non-alcoholic drinks such as water or coffee

* Note that cell phones are not permitted for large events in the Consular Waiting Hall.

Cameras, computers, tablets, USB drives, cables or other electronic equipment are prohibited on the U.S. Embassy grounds.
Cell phones are prohibited in the Consular waiting hall.
Flammable items (including perfume and other sprays) are prohibited.
Weapons or sharp pointed objects that could cause injuries, such as knives, razors, scissors with blades of more than 6 cm, screwdrivers, etc. are prohibited and will not be stored on the Embassy grounds.
Alcoholic or hazardous liquids are prohibited.
Bicycles or scooters are prohibited.

* This list is not exhaustive. Other items may be prohibited at the discretion of security staff.
* Prohibited items will not be stored by Embassy personnel.


  All visitors are welcome at American Center during operating hours. Admission is free of charge.

General Admission Rules

  • To enter the American Center, all persons aged 14 and older must present a government-issued photo ID (such as passport or driver’s license) to the guards.

  • Children younger than 14 years old do not need ID, however they must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian.

  • ll visitors and their belongings are subject to screening by security personnel.

  • Electronic equipment, flammable liquids, weapons, and other materials stated above are prohibited. The guards cannot provide storage of such items.

  • Cell phones are allowed (except for large events in the Consular Waiting Hall).

  • Our public access technology is available for use on site free of charge.

  • Picture taking and sharing is encouraged.

  • Please park your bicycle or scooter outside the building; they will not be allowed onto the Embassy territory.

  • As a courtesy, please register for events in advance. (If you cannot complete registration for whatever reason, you are still welcome to attend.)

  • Groups larger than 12 people may visit the American Center during general public hours, but we ask that you notify us at least 24 hours in advance at [email protected]

  • American Center guests must be respectful of other guests and their views.
