Do you relish a juicy dispute? A fiery exchange? Do your neurons fire in delight when you’re challenged to take a stance for issues you believe in?
If so, then come put your persuasive skills to the test while practicing your English at the AMC Debate Club. You can expect a lively debate with our hosts Elizabeth and Jielan providing some constructive judgement and jokes!
The topic of the debate on January 14 is Save the animals— Is it moral to give to animal charities when humans need help?
What is debating?
Though it may sound fancy, debating is simply arguing in its most passionate form. Four teams of debaters try to persuade a judge of their viewpoint about a controversial issue while simultaneously fending off criticism from other teams.
To prepare for the debate, make sure to have a look at this guide to debating.
How can debating boost your English?
Tackling different topics, our debating club is never dull! With barely any preparation, debaters have to formulate structured arguments on a wide-variety of topics and then defend their arguments from the questioning of other teams.
Our classes cover everything from the jargon to the sentence structures needed to make an impactful speech. Most importantly, each person is given plenty of time to put their English skills to the test in the debate.
These classes are best suited for adults with Upper—Intermediate to Advanced level of English. Number of tickets is limited, so book fast!
Led by AMC volunteers Elizabeth Crewe and Jielan Bahaa, English teachers from England and Egypt.
This class is hosted on Zoom, so if you are interested in joining, please create a Zoom account beforehand. When registering below, please submit your valid email address to receive a link to the class Zoom meeting 30 minutes before the session begins.
