The American Center in Moscow invites practicing and future English-language teachers to an interactive workshop on teacher autonomy in the USA and Russia by Toni Hull, Associate Director for English Language Programs, on November 19th.
About the workshop: All around the globe, language teachers are being encouraged to implement the principles of learner autonomy in their classrooms. What is too often ignored is that learner autonomy requires an equal degree of teacher autonomy. In this interactive workshop, participants will discuss what teacher autonomy means in their context and strategize how to release its potential.
About the guest-speaker: Toni Hull is Associate Director for English Language Programs, a U.S. Department of State funded exchange program for U.S. American TEFL/TESL professionals. Before moving to Washington, D.C. for her current position, Toni was an English Language Fellow in Moscow, Russia, between 2010 and 2013. When she wasn’t working with teachers at her host institution NUST MISIS, Toni facilitated a recertification course for Moscow-area in-service teachers, hosted a regular workshop series at the American Center, and conducted teacher training throughout the region in Tula, Shuya, Ivanovo, Yaroslavl, Smolensk, Voronezh, Kolomna, and many other cities. Prior to being a Fellow in Russia, Toni was an English Language Fellow in Vietnam, and also taught EFL/ESL in China, Morocco, Moscow, and the United States. Toni holds an MS in TESOL, an MA in Theatre Studies, and a BA in Russian Studies. In addition to her career in English language teaching, Toni has been a retail publicist, promotional copy-writer and proof-reader, non-profit fund-raiser, and theater administrator.
