Call for Artists
The American Center in Moscow (AMC) is a virtual community space for Russians to explore the history, culture, art and values of the United States, and to participate in conversations on subjects that impact both American and Russian citizens. AMC’s free online events include concerts, films, theatrical productions, art exhibitions, and livestream discussions with leading experts on diverse topics such as culture, science, technology, historic preservation, and the environment. AMC also provides ongoing language, business and creative arts activities, as well as up-to-date resources on educational opportunities in the United States.
As an exploration of identity, emotions, and personal narrative, portraiture has been a timeless and significant art form throughout history. This exhibit, “Re-Frame: A Collective Perspective of American and Russian Women Artists,” challenges women artists from both the United States and Russia to reinterpret traditional notions of portraiture through their unique perspectives and mediums. Presented in commemoration of Women’s History Month, Re-Frame will feature intimate portraits in a myriad of forms, inviting the audience to reflect upon how they see others, how they see themselves, and how one’s viewpoint can change by seeing through the facade.
